Text Talk

The grade 5 students have been working on summarizing and presenting a news article to a small group.  The purpose is to introduce their topic to the group and lead a discussion about it.  They were supposed to start Tuesday, however due to illness this will begin on Thursday. 

This is how they will be assessed:

Leader came prepared (had a text for discussion, prepared questions/connections)
Leader make topic interesting (group could relate, group was engaged)
Leader had a good understanding of text (able to summarize, explain, quote, connect)
Leader was able to create conversation (good questions, follow-up)
Leader was able to manage group (group listening, took turns, participated)
Leader was respectful to others (listened to ideas, responded respectfully)
