Grade 5 – research project The grade five students are researching a topic of choice and creating a visual book on the ipads (book creator app) to represent their understanding Book contents: Title page Table of contents Minimum of four content pages – 1 introduction to the topic, 3 pages of details Glossary Visuals The students will learn how to create open-ended questions suitable for research and how to take research notes They will also learn how to form an information paragraph and categorize information effectively Assessment  The students will be assessed on: Content: 4 – ideas are supported by purposeful details and developed thoroughly, communication is clear and easy to understand 3 – ideas are supported by details and elaborated on, communication is mostly clear and easy to understand 2 – ideas have some basic support, communication is comprehendible 1 – ideas are present but may not be support, communic

Text Talk

The grade 5 students have been working on summarizing and presenting a news article to a small group.  The purpose is to introduce their topic to the group and lead a discussion about it.  They were supposed to start Tuesday, however due to illness this will begin on Thursday.  This is how they will be assessed: Text Talk – Assessment Your name: Class: Name of presenter: Topic of group discussion: Criteria 4- excellent 3 –good 2-basic 1- not meeting Leader came prepared (had a text for discussion, prepared questions/connections) Leader make topic interesting (group could relate, group was engaged) Leader had a good understanding of text (able to summarize, explain, quote, connect) Leader was able to create conversation (good questions, follow-up) Leader was able to manage group (group listening, took turns, participated) Leader was respectful to others (listened to ideas, responded respectfully) Comments:

Due date: Twisted fairy tales

All twisted fairy tales for grade fives are due Monday, March 11th.  Some students are finished and have printed and shared their stories with me on Google Drive.  If they need to finish over the weekend and cannot print at home I will print it for them on Monday as long as it is shared.

Story goals
